I’ve done a fair bit of writing over the past few years – newspapers, magazines, television, website copy, even a few bits of (largely unpublished) poetry that I’m very fond of. 

Most of those – except for the poetry – are behind me now. They were fun, and they kept bread on the table. One client – a real pro, whose opinion I valued – said that I under-sold and over-delivered on my skills and abilities. Is it a little bit sad to be proud of a recommendation like that? OK, guilty as charged. I was, and I still am.

But what I like doing now – more than that, what brings real joy to my life – is writing books. 

 Preparing a book is like a marriage – you’re in it for the long haul, unlike the holiday romances and the one-night stands that I mentioned earlier. Sometimes, it’s a very long haul; sometimes you think you’ve fallen out. Occasionally, you actually have, and a dearly loved project bites the dust.

And that, all of it, is what this website is about – except for the odd bit of poetry, which is here as a little bit of self-indulgence, and because it’s my website, and I can do what I like with it.
